Saving Sharon

Sharon, one of our mother sals had gotten ill right after she gave birth to her piglets. We tried to help her naturally for two days. We researched and asked fellow pig farmers and local veterinarians for their advice. She stopped eating and drinking and was lethargic and wouldn’t get up. We had to open her mouth and pour Gatorade and water in to keep her alive.

We decided to give her a dose of penicillin and then we took her piglets away to be weaned that same hour. She was at death’s door and it was the only way to save her. It was a hard decision to give her antibiotics, but we knew it was the right way to go and ultimately it saved her life and she was able to live on to care for and feed her little piglets.

We will always be transparent about our process and use of medicines or anything not found in nature. If we ever had to use antibiotics with a piglet, we would not sell them.
